Dockendale Shipping Company Limited was incorporated in the Bahamas in June, 1973 as a Ship Management Company.

The Founder of Dockendale Shipping Company was the late George T.R. Campbell a legend in Japanese Shipbuilding Industry who launched the well known series construction vessel, The Freedom , Fortune , Friendship and Freedom MK-2 which dominated the medium size dry cargo market sector for the last number of years. The Company started with humble beginnings, managing 2-3 vessels. In January 1986 Leslie J. Fernandes was inducted from the Shipbulding division in Tokyo as General Manager of Dockendale Ship Management in Nassau.

In 1993 Dockendale Shipping Formed a joint venture partnership with Clipper Shipping of Denmark where in Dockendale do the Technical Management and Clipper the Chartering and Commercial Operations. This partnership has worked very well resulting expansion of both Dockendale and Clipper.

The Company specializes in managing fully automated, dry cargo vessels. The intention is to maintain a modern fleet with an average age of about 5-7 years by disposing of the older vessels and adding new buildings. In the last 10 years 30 new buildings have been added to the fleet. All vessels range in size between 20,400-51,000 DWT.

Most of the ships managed by Dockendale have been registered in the Bahamas. Dockendale have constructed an Upscale Multimillion Dollar Office Building overlooking Nassau Harbour entrance where Clipper has purchased an entire floor. The Prime Minister inaugurated the Building in May 2000.

Dockendale Shipping presently manages vessels for Clipper, Campbell Shipping and MUR.

A team of highly qualified managers and professional staff at the Head Office in Nassau and offices at Mumbai who run a very tight ship, assists Mr. Kamanna Valluri who is Managing Director. Dockendale Fleet is manned mostly by Indian Nationals and supplemented by Philippine and Myanmar Nationals.

On 1st January 2008, Leslie Fernandes took over 100% shareholding in Dockendale and sold 40% shares back to Torben Jensen of the Clipper Group. The Clipper Group has promised to give about 60 new building dry cargo vessels for management to Dockendale in the next 5 years. Campbell Shipping as well as MUR have also promised to give a number of their new building vessels for management which will make Dockendale a premier ship management company with the youngest fleet averaging 3-5 years.
